Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

DateBot is operated by James Edwards, an individual operating DateBot (“DateBot,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains how we handle information through the DateBot app, website, and related services. Contact us at datebotapp@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

Account information. We collect account identifiers and authentication information supplied by your sign-in provider, together with the profile details you give us when you set up DateBot, such as your first name, age, and information about who you date and what you are looking for. Some of that is sensitive information about your sexual orientation or intimate life, and we handle it as such.

Conversations and uploads. We collect messages, questions, screenshots or other supported uploads, and information extracted from them, such as conversation text, participants, sequence, and relevant context. Images you attach are re-encoded on your device before they are sent, which removes embedded camera metadata such as location tags. This may include information about other people and sensitive details about relationships, sexual orientation, or intimate life when included in your content.

Saved context and generated information. We may store user-provided preferences, relevant information about people and situations, conversation summaries, inferred context, DateBot responses, and records needed to understand how an answer was produced. Inferences may be incomplete or wrong.

Feedback and support. We collect corrections, ratings, reported problems, outcomes you choose to share, and communications with support.

Subscription information. We receive transaction identifiers, purchase and subscription status, and related information from our payment and subscription providers.

Technical information. We collect information needed to operate and measure the service, such as IP address, device and app information, timestamps, usage events, crashes, errors, and service performance.

Location. DateBot does not ask for your device location. We do not use GPS, we request no location permission, and we do not keep a location or country field on your account. Because every internet service sees the network address a request comes from, our hosting, analytics and AI service providers can infer approximate location (typically at country level) as an ordinary part of operating their services.

4. Evaluating, training, and improving DateBot

We may use information submitted to or generated through DateBot to evaluate, develop, train, fine-tune, test, and improve DateBot and the models, prompts, classifiers, retrieval systems, memory systems, safety systems, and other components used to provide the service. This may include conversations, questions, screenshots and other uploads, extracted information, saved or derived context, DateBot responses, structured judgments, corrections, feedback, reported outcomes, and technical or provenance records associated with how a response was produced.

Authorized personnel and service providers working on our behalf may review relevant content for these purposes. We may create evaluation datasets, research datasets, labeled examples, regression cases, training datasets, and other derived research artifacts from eligible product interactions.

We retain eligible improvement and research data for as long as reasonably necessary for the applicable development, evaluation, training, security, or research purpose, subject to applicable law, user rights, and the safeguards described in this policy. We may de-identify or anonymize information where appropriate. Pseudonymized information that can still be linked to a person remains personal information and is handled accordingly.

Where applicable law requires consent or another specific legal basis for a particular improvement or training use, we will establish that basis before the use occurs and provide any required choices or rights. Acceptance of this policy or the Terms does not override rights that cannot lawfully be waived.

Improving DateBot and allowing an external provider to train its own general-purpose models are separate activities. We do not authorize a provider to use DateBot content for its own unrelated model training merely because we use that provider to process a request. Applicable provider practices and controls must be reviewed and configured separately.

5. When information is shared

AI service providers. DateBot cannot answer a question without sending it somewhere to be processed. We use third-party AI service providers, and the content you submit (your messages and questions, the screenshots you upload, the information extracted from them, the names and details of the people you ask about, and your saved profile and context) may be sent to them to provide DateBot’s core functionality, and, where the required permissions and legal basis are in place, for the evaluation and improvement work described above.

This is how the product works rather than an optional extra, and using DateBot means content you submit is processed this way. We choose these providers deliberately and only send images to a provider whose terms we have reviewed for that purpose.

We do not authorize our AI providers to use your content to train their own general-purpose models. Providers may nonetheless retain requests for a limited period for their own abuse-monitoring and security purposes, under their own terms. Retention periods and controls differ between providers and can change, so we do not promise that nothing is ever retained anywhere.

We describe these recipients by category rather than by name so this policy stays accurate as our infrastructure changes.

Other service providers. We also rely on hosting and storage infrastructure providers, authentication providers, subscription and payment infrastructure providers, push notification infrastructure, and analytics and crash-reporting providers. Each processes information only for the function it performs, under appropriate contractual restrictions.

Our analytics and crash-reporting providers receive app usage events, crash reports, and device and app information. They do not receive your DateBot account identifier, your messages, your screenshots, or anything else you write. We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not work with advertising networks or data brokers, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law or valid legal process, address fraud or security issues, or protect rights and safety.

Business transfers. Information may be transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing diligence, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality safeguards and applicable privacy requirements.

At your direction. If you choose to share content using an available sharing feature, it goes to the recipient or service you select. Submitting content to DateBot does not by itself authorize us to publish it in marketing.

6. Screenshots, retention, and deletion

Screenshots and other submitted content may be retained with the rest of your account data and may also be eligible for the evaluation, training, and improvement uses described above. Extraction and deletion are separate steps: deleting an original image does not automatically delete extracted text, derived context, evaluation records, or other related records unless required by an applicable deletion request or legal obligation.

We do not apply an arbitrary short expiration period to active-account conversations, screenshots, turns, saved context, model outputs, or related provenance solely because they are old. We may retain this information while your account remains active and for legitimate service, research, model-improvement, security, legal, or compliance purposes, subject to applicable law and the rights described below.

You can initiate account deletion inside the app and contact datebotapp@gmail.com for assistance or a privacy request.

Deleting your account inside the app takes effect immediately in the ways you can see: you are signed out on every device, your sessions are ended, the connection to your sign-in provider is withdrawn, the account can no longer be used, and notifications to your devices stop. Your request is then recorded and handled through a reviewed internal process rather than by an automatic background job, so that deletion is carried out correctly and can be verified. We do this deliberately. An unattended purge of intimate conversation data is harder to get right and harder to audit than a controlled one.

We delete or de-identify personal information as required by applicable law, subject to lawful exceptions such as records we must or are permitted to retain for security, fraud prevention, billing, tax, legal, or compliance purposes. Information that has been genuinely anonymized so that it is no longer personal information may be retained and used independently where permitted by law.

Deleting the app does not delete your account. Account deletion and subscription cancellation are separate; manage an Apple subscription through your Apple account.

7. Your choices and rights

You can choose what information to submit and contact us to request access, correction, or deletion. Available rights depend on where you live and may also include portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, opt-out rights, appeal, or a complaint to a regulator.

We may verify your identity before completing a request. We respond within applicable legal timeframes. When processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it; withdrawal does not change the lawfulness of earlier processing, and some features may no longer function.

8. Security and access

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information and restrict access to authorized purposes. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

9. Information about other people

Conversations may include information about people who do not have a DateBot account. Provide only information you are entitled to share and reasonably need for your question. Avoid unnecessary identifiers or unrelated sensitive material. People whose information appears in an upload may contact datebotapp@gmail.com with a privacy request. We assess these requests under applicable law while protecting other users’ rights and information.

10. Age eligibility

DateBot is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly allow children under 18 to create accounts. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

11. International processing

Information may be processed outside your country by DateBot and its providers. We apply the protections required by applicable law for international transfers.

12. Changes and contact

We update this policy when our practices change and revise the effective date. We provide additional notice and obtain consent when required for material changes. Updating the policy does not by itself authorize new uses of previously collected data.
